Any campaigns and templates designed before the 5th of September 2016 will still be accessed and edited in the latest version of eMarketing. You will be redirected to the ‘classic’ eMarketing editor.

New campaign/event templates can only be built in the new drag-and-drop builder.

    Administer classic editor

The editor tools are designed to enable basic templates to be created by general users. However, if your organisation requires a more complex template layout, MYP recommends using the services of a digital designer. If you are engaging the services of a graphic designer, it may be appropriate to set them up as a staff member (with limited permissions only) so they can access the eMarketing editor directly. Alternatively, MYP provides a design service and can build your template into eMarketing.  To request a quote, please submit a request through the Support Centre.

We recommend all templates are built using the eMarketing editor tools rather than via the source code.

Microsoft Outlook (as the major email program) does not support many CSS properties including background images. For a full list of unsupported CSS properties, please refer to the ‘Unsupported Cascading Style Sheet Properties Compared with Cascading Style Sheets, Level 2.1’ section of the Microsoft site http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa338201.aspx.

Due to Outlook (and other email programs) not supporting some styles, email marketing editors (such as the HTML editor used in eMarketing) remove these styles to ensure the way you are viewing the template within the editor is consistent with how the email will display when sent. The editor essentially removes any code that the email client will strip when the email is sent. This is across all email marketing editors and is not isolated to eMarketing or the HTML editor. The ‘Preview’ function of eMarketing will display the template as it will appear when viewed on a web browser and there may be discrepancies between this view and the display of emails when actually sent. It is recommended that the ‘Send test to self’ function on the ‘Edit email template’ is used to check final display.

The font ‘Comic Sans’ is not compatible with mobile devices and will be substituted on these devices for the ‘Cursive’ font. It is recommended that this font is not used in campaign templates where readers will be accessing the email via mobile phones.

Design email templates within classic editor

Before commencing the design of your template, work out the layout of your content (e.g. header image at top of email, followed by body text and then a coloured footer at the bottom).  You will then need to create a table to house this layout.

NB: We recommend tables are used for all layouts, particularly when using images. Alignment issues may occur with images not enclosed within a table cell.

    • Click the ‘Table’ icon in the editor
    • Enter the required amount of rows and columns and the width of your table (recommended maximum width is 700px)
    • Unless you require a set height for your campaign, it is recommended that a specific height is not set as this will allow the template to extend to suit the amount of text included
    • Insert required cell spacing and padding
    • Remove unwanted borders by changing the ‘Border size’ field to zero or make table borders thicker by increasing this number
    • Select the alignment of the table

To edit, add and remove table cells at any stage, right click on the table within your template, select ‘Cell’ and select the relevant option from the menu displayed.

    Insert image within classic editor

NB: It is recommended that images are resized to the correct dimensions before uploading to eMarketing and inserting into a template, rather than resizing within the eMarketing editor. Images resized within the editor may not retain their new dimensions when the campaign is sent.

It is not recommended to insert images which contain important information or to simply insert an image as your complete campaign. Some recipients may have set their email settings to only receive text-based emails and therefore will not receive information contained in an image. Place your cursor in the table cell in which your image is to be placed.

    • Select the ‘Flash’ icon
    • Select ‘Upload’ to commence the file location process
    • Select ‘Choose File’ to locate the required image
    • Once identified, select ‘Send it to the Server’
    • Add alternative text and select ‘OK’

NB: To add the ability to include a link to automatically display email content in a  browser, select the ‘Yes’ radio just above the editor (many email security systems will not automatically display images and graphics in the body of the email – this option provides the ability for the entire email in a browser.

Insert + edit text within classic editor

    • Text should not be copied from programs such as Microsoft Word directly into eMarketing as this may cause formatting issues.  Text should be typed directly into the template or copied from Notepad.
    • Formatting (bold, centred, indent), font size and type and more can be adjusted using the options in the editor

The colour of text can be changed by selecting the ‘Text colour’ icon and choosing from the available swatches

To choose a particular colour by hex value, select ‘More colours’.

    • Enter the hex value (including #) into the ‘Selected colour’ field
    • Click ‘OK’

To insert content placeholders such as the recipient’s first name:

    • Copy the required placeholder text from the column on the right
    • Paste into the relevant cell of your template table

NB: It is critical that you only include codes that reflect fields stored in your contact list or gaps will appear in your email e.g. If you insert xFirstNamex within the body of the email template, all contacts in your contact list will need to have a first name or a gap will appear.

Link to URL within classic editor

    • Select the text or image to be linked and click the ‘Link’ icon in the editor.
    • Enter the URL to link to and click ‘OK’

If links are detected in the HTML, click through rates for campaigns using this template WILL be tracked.

If hyperlinks have been included in the template (e.g. field xlinkx), two check boxes will appear at the top of the next page and provide the following benefits (if selected):

    • Auto-create an opportunity in ARM if email is opened
    • Auto-create an opportunity in ARM if email hyperlinks clicked

NB: It is not possible to embed a YouTube video in an email. The recommendation is to add the YouTube video as a link.

Link to document within classic editor

    • Select the text or image to be linked and click the ‘Link’ icon in the editor
    • Select ‘Upload’ to commence the file location process
    • Select ‘Browse’ to locate the required document
    • Once identified, select ‘Send it to the Server’
    • Select ‘OK’

Attach document within classic editor (myDocs users only)

myDocs users can attach documents to an email template.  The total size of all attachments is limited to 10MB. Attempting to click ‘Next’ when the total size of all files exceeds 10MB will trigger an error message. If the email template is sent out in a campaign, these files will be sent as attachments with it.

    • Scroll to the Attachments section in the editor.
    • Select ‘Add’ to open a pop-up where a document in myDocs can be selected
    • Click the ‘Add’ button to add the required document
    • Continue adding documents as required
    • Select ‘Next’
    • Select ‘Save’

Update background colours within classic editor

    • Right click on the table cell that the colour is to be changed
    • Select ‘Cell’
    • Select ‘Cell Properties’
    • Enter the hex value of the colour or click ‘Choose’ to select a colour from the available swatches
    • Click ‘OK’

Add ‘Subscriber Partner link’ within classic editor (Partners only)

Partners will notice a placeholder in the eMarketing email template that will create their unique marketplace URL link in the email body.
