Out of date browsers and email clients can cause emails to display incorrectly. Google provides instructions on how to update specific browsers and email client to a more current version.
However, here is a guide related to some of the major systems.
Update Microsoft Outlook
Out of date versions of Outlook can cause emails to display incorrectly. Below are the instructions on how to update Microsoft Outlook.
In Outlook, go to File > Office Account > Select the icon next to Office Updates, and a drop-down will appear. Select ‘Update now’.
Microsoft Outlook will now update. Microsoft products, such as Microsoft Word will need to be closed prior to update.
Update Google Chrome
Out of date versions of Google Chrome can cause emails to display incorrectly when viewed through web browsers such as Gmail and Outlook 365. Below are the instructions on how to update Google Chrome.
Open Chrome. At the top of the screen is a set of three dots, shown below. Clicking on them will open a menu. If the option “Update Google Chrome” appears, click it and relaunch. If the option does not appear, the browser is up to date.
As this relaunches Google Chrome, any data stored locally, such as unsent emails, will be lost. Please save this before relaunching.
Update Mozilla Firefox
Out of date versions of Mozilla Firefox can cause emails to display incorrectly when viewed through web browsers such as Gmail and Outlook 365. Below are the instructions on how to update Mozilla Firefox.
Open Firefox and select the three-line icon, shown below. Select the “?” help icon and then “About Firefox”.
A pop-up will appear. If Firefox is up to date, it will appear as shown below.
If it is not up to date, the highlighted line will be replaced with a button labelled ‘Restart to update Firefox’. Click the button and Firefox will restart. Once restarted, Firefox will be updated.
As this relaunches Firefox, any data stored locally, such as unsent emails, will be lost. Please save this before relaunching.
Update Microsoft Edge,Windows + Internet Explorer
Out of date versions of Microsoft Edge/Windows and/or Internet Explorer can cause emails to display incorrectly when viewed through web browsers such as Gmail and Outlook 365. Below are the instructions on how to update.
- In the start menu, open the Settings
- Open the Update & security option
If updates are available, it will offer an ‘Install Now’ button.
Update Mac + Safari
Out of date versions of Safari can cause emails to display incorrectly when viewed through web browsers such as Gmail and Outlook 365. Below are the instructions on how to update Safari.
- Click the apple icon in the top left of the screen.
- Select App Store
- Select ‘Updates’
- Select ‘Update all’
Run this process again. Some updates happen only after other items have happened first.
This may close open applications or restart the Mac, potentially losing any data stored locally, such as unsent emails or documents. Please save any such data before updating.
